It's a real bummer, you should be rewarded for quality gameplay, exceptional moves/ performance, even before EoF, doing something fancy got you nothing.

Eh, that is true now, but that has not always been the case. For example, if you had slick movement or timing, you would win more often in PVP and be able to complete activities more easily in PVE. While the moves themselves were not rewarded, being able to perform complex moves helped you win more (and winning more was rewarded)
