Equips sword after update.
Killed by boss stomp mechanic.
Unequips sword.

Have you tried blocking at the right time? Does wonders, even right now. Just don't do it exessively and practice the timing.

Except a sword is a heavy weapon, which you do use against bosses. Now if they are moving swords to the energy slot, then game on.

How so? You generally use heavy weapons on bosses. But swords (other than black talon) are a heavy weapon you can't use on most bosses because of the stomp mechanic, so equiping a sword makes you much less effective in a boss fight no matter how they rework it.
