I fully agree with you. I rarely see 4 stacks but i regularly see 3 stacks. In the last days one sided 3 stacks made up 50-70% of all games. Sure you can beat them, but the win chances against 3 stacks are still below average.
Matchmaking wise the main problem seems to be that match making in gambit never disbands groups. If you are a 3 or 4 stack and ever play against randoms you will play against them until 4 of them leave after the match, otherwise the group is just refilled. For 3 stacks this was observable for me as i frequendly seen the same guys vs randoms.
I dont think that randoms vs groups can be completely prevented but i think the matchmaking should be changed in a way that it tries to find a group for a longer period of time. If group vs random happens the lobby should be disbanded afterwards. If one side is alot stronger it should be disbanded as well (like crucible does already).
Everyone that is against such changes should think about it. You need some gameplay quality and a fair chance to win. If players dont get the feeling they can win they will not play the game mode. Ive seen enought situations in games where devs ignored such issues with the result of less players jopining in the activity. I know that steamroling can be fun, but it doesnt help in keeping players.
