You obviously have never Used Backstab with Blink Strike in either PvE or PvP.
On a funnier note, you obviously have never Blink Strike'd a Titan coming down at you in mid Fist of Havoc have you? The results are hilarious.

Backstab for pve content is actually pointless. Also, I have khepris sting now so that more than makes up for that. As for titans and such, Ive sent quite a few players flying across the map.

Does it allow you to avoid the smash? Iv never even thought for trying to avoid it that way

It's really a one in a million shot for it to happen because the conditions must be near perfect. The Titan must be above you coming down for his/her slam and you Blink Strike as soon as the Titan enters Blink Strike range. I see the conditions met a lot but mess up my timing a few times. You really need a good understanding of the battlefield and who is where. I haven't tried on a Titan using Death From Above yet. Cannot confirm for this one. Good luck =). I died because I was laughing so hard.
