Companies will be studying this on what not to do.
I doubt it. I remember when the closest most games got to a story was a couple of paragraphs at the beginning of the manual. Then you have more modern classics like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus following the same principle (and almost no in-game story at all), and even more modern classics like Journey and Fez where the stories are massively obfuscated and require serious work (and some interpretation) on the part of the player to be discovered. Destiny's core story is simple and archetypal, to reach the widest possible audience. It's narrative is incomplete, but then *that's the point* - we're at the start of a 10-year story arc, so there need to be loose story threads to pick up later. There's plenty of rich lore to build on too (the grimoire) but that's best left as supplementary material - if you're enjoying the game as is it's not necessary, but if you want to get nerdy with the details you can fill your boots. Think about this: didn't Star Wars feel like a richer universe before the prequels laboured it with too much exposition? I saw a book the other day on all the weapons, tech, factions etc. of Halo 4. What is that if not a grimoire? If you're a big enough fan of the game (and fictional technical details) you'd get something out of it - if not, no biggie. Bungie made a choice with Destiny not to bog the game down with technical background. It's there if you want it. But that's your choice.

4 RespostasTheir not a laughing stock. Just having a bit of a rocky start lol.
-
6 RespostasBungie has lost all respect from me, and many others. Fanboys will continue to defend this game but in reality it's a shell of what it could've been.
-
I actually like reading the cards and am enjoying the game and the people I have met. Friend me on PS4 if your not a hater. GarrickG

1 ResponderFor every person that qq's about lack of in-game lore, there are 20 that qq about too much lore and now they hate having to click past 100 cut scenes of listen to the companion cube...err...ghost ramble on. I personally like the rich second screen experience and it's kind of nice having "more to read" on the side when I'm somewhere where I don't have my PS4. If the lore was cooked 100% into the game and only available there, how many of you would seriously burn game time sitting there thumbing down and X'ing through static text on the screen or taking a knee in the middle of the dungeon to listen to audio that's hard to focus on over gunfire? C'mon. Think through the alternatives before whining about something you wouldn't actually use.

4 RespostasSeeing how they made a 7-step plan for World Domination for fun, and actually are on the final step of it somehow, makes me wonder if anyone even dares to laugh.... Plus the cards actually are a very good idea. The lore on there is both mysterious yet clear. It gives a lot of insight on the world and keeps people interested

3 RespostasI wouldnt be surprised if the cards werent meant to be in the game in the first place. They seem like a quick escape for the messed up story. Leaving the game to read text on the website? Theres absolutely no reason the cards shouldn't be readable in game. Developers have been putting epic lore into their games with reading for years. Bethesda anyone? I can see it now BUNGIE OFFICE Dev1 - yeah so this story just isnt making sense now that we have had to cut most of it out. We have lost nearly everything. Dev 2 - Hmm we need a quick fix. Dev 1 - Well how about allowing players to find books or holographic visuals allowing them read and view the lore of the Destiny world? Dev 2 - Nah will take too long to code in and Activision hit us hard with this deadline. Dev 1 - How about having the ghost tell the player the lore vocally? Dev 2 - Impossible , firstly Peter Dinklage doesnt have the time to record as he is filming Game of thrones and secondly , where between defending the ghost in every stage to constantly shooting adds will the ghost have time to explain everything? Dev 1 - Fair enough. Gosh this is hard , lol we might aswell just put the text on our website and make them read it there at this rate hahaha. Dev 2 - Bingo Dev 1- -_____________________-

4 RespostasMaybe the are LAUGHING because of how high their STOCK went up heyoooooo
-
I believe they are aware their coffee never tasted better from all the haters tears. They are also aware some of you babies are the saddest, more desperate pathetic bunch of babies on the Internet today.
-
4 RespostasThe only reason i bought this game is its a fps and bungie made it. They let me down severely.
-
Second screen experience wasn't even popular for homes already, don't know where they got the idea for grimmore cards. Their hardly a laughing stock to be honest, there just another AAA developer who's game didn't live up to the hype. Over time it will get better.
-
Do you even triforce OP?
-
The cards themselves are not the problem. The problem is there's more story in an out of game Internet resource than there is in the actual game itself.
-
1 ResponderMan wtf. Grimoire cards are awesome! The art, the story, and the bonuses tied to the theme of the card....what's there not to love? Then we really have to earn some of them by finding stuff, which makes it all the more gratifying. The only downside is that they should be in game instead of on the website. If these were real cards I'd buy a pack.
-
3 RespostasWhat, you'd rather a big hologram pops up on your arm with lore like in Dead Space? Because that thing always blocked my view and things crept up on me when I was using it.
-
Lost best writers, staten and rubin, scrambled for story, didnt make one, gave us grimoire encyclopedia.
-
4 RespostasAs convenient as it is to look on my phone wherever I'm at [to satiate my need for something similar to a Destiny Storyline], it is not a suitable substitute for an actual story within the game itself.
-
If I wanted to read a story for myself I would have bought a book. The story should be TOLD in the game.
-
18 RespostasThe cards are awesome...did you know you get bonuses for leveling them up...you probably never read or looked at them...now you insert foot in mouth
-
Just stop defending the gaymore cards. This is literally the worst way to deliver the story of a game ever. Why are so many people okay with having to leave the game to learn about the game? How does that even sound appealing, if I buy a game that's supposed to have an epic story it better be in the damn game!!! If the story is supposed span out over dlc then they should have set it up so we at least have a inkling of what's happening beforehand. Terrible I'm telling you just damn terrible not a single npc has time to tell us wtf is happening I mean come on.
-
21 RespostasHuh? I love the cards. They provide wonderful tidbits of lore and info that you can check out later when you can't play. Furthermore, since I'm on the topic, many people who complain of a lack of story in Destiny make the mistake of comparing it to the entirety of the Halo universe. This is a mistake. When compared to what we knew after only Halo CE, Destiny is right on track. This story is going to be a decade in the making, and I am confident the depth of the fiction will excede that of even Halo.
-
I'm sure companies everywhere are laughing at Bungie for how much money Destiny made. /s

Editado por The_Moustache: 9/30/2014 8:48:23 PMFinal Fantasy XIII did something similar and was one of the reasons it was hated.
-
4 RespostasI kinda agree with you, I thought it was a cool gimmick to read while I'm at work. I didn't expect it to be required to understand the games motivations.
-
11 RespostasIts funny. Most of the story from the Halo series came from books that you had to purchase, and everyone claims Halo has awesome story (that you had to buy seperately from the games, in book form). They gave us the grimoire (basically a book you unlock as you play the game) for free, and people complain.
