Is Destiny going to be free roam?
I have heard rumors that it's not, I need to confim

From what I've heard, it's all up to the player. If you want to play the patrol mode (free roam) and find treasures and do as little or as much as you want, you can. I'm not sure how all of this is going to be set up since little details have been released! So I'm not even too sure myself. I hear it is, but dont take my word for it. Listen to bungie.

When you go to an area to "complete a mission" you are able to do anything in the area, so yes, you can explore, and have open area to explore.
