You know I thought I did a good job with this post but I just noticed that I misspelled conspiracy in the title and I can't edit it anymore so uhh think I'm just gonna find a good spot to curl up and die

 • I hadn't even noticed until you brought my attention to it. I believe I remember seeing a show, 'Brain Games' I think, that talked about how the human brain will fill in what we think we see rather than what we actually see.

 • Tbh I just wanted to pre-empt the people who I know would come in and try to get me with the "you made a minor spelling mistake so your argument is invalid" But yeah that's the downside to that gamble, I actively draw everyone else's attention to it

 • I wouldn't fret over it; in the few years I've been coming to the forum I've seen so many misspellings, text short-hand, and grammatical errors that at times I can hear my English teacher aunt shrieking in my head when I read them. Sometimes, I wonder if I do it deliberately just to secretly spite her for all of the years she spent correcting my speech and writing. Imagine seeing someone on a daily basis that tells you the most uptight nonsense like, "You're not done, the turkey was done; you're finished." Just a random example, but she was relentless.

 • Yeah, I usually don't put too much thought or effort into the grammar or syntax. I've always had a bad habit of like MASSIVE run on sentences, which I've gotten good at editing for formal work but most people neither notice nor care on the internet. However, when it comes to spelling people are real quick to hop on that. I'd guess that's probably because it's the only one most of them are even capable of identifying as a mistake.

 • Unfortunately, it's something that's stayed with me for a long time. When I bothered to have a cellphone, I used to aggravate the hell out of my friends because out of habit I'd send full sentences and paragraphs in text messages simply because it was what was hammered into my head. To this day I still see text shorthand here on the forum that leaves me confused until I figure out the meaning contextually. It was quite a while before I knew what 'TL;DR' stood for. 😂

 • Honestly same here. I got that it was shorthand for "here's the basic gist of the post" but never understood what the actual abbreviation was.

 • Thank [Higher Power Here] for internet search engines, otherwise I'd still be trying to look these things up in books at the local library.
