crafting is killing the fun in Destiny

its inescapable for me to see that my fun with this game has plummeted since the first time bungie introduced crafting. from playing countless hours of ff14 , i used to find D2 refreshing. and the lure, that hooked me was having guns, and gear that friends of mine didnt have. or were still on the chase for. yet after so many changes, and surviving the one eyed mask era. even those imperfections in the game couldn't remove the fun, and dedication i had for this game. that was until i found myself crafting my second weapon. and since that time, ive found less and less reason to buy the next big expansion. for some of us we still do not have all the crafting patterns or as i like to refer to them as (time sink patterns). long gone are the times where i get a random loot drop and think to myself "Yes" lets have a look. because non of it matters. bungie has figured out a way to make loot not matter. world engrams! dont matter, crucible engrams dont matter, nightfall engrams....dont matter. why cause everything coming out of the crafting patterns are way to over used, and they cant nerf them because ppl are paying for the seasons pass, or expansions to get these patterns. GMs & nightfalls are farmable, so now you just do lots of those till you get what you want. wheres the randomness that lured me into this amazing game once? does anyone else feel this way ? bungie get rid of crafting, its nothing more then a time sink, and im guessing everone knows it. its no fun waiting for red borders... last thing... we could all delete our entire vaults.... and we could still do everything with the crafted weapons we have accumulated.

  • What is with people and their wall of text? Seriously, if you want people to read the things you're putting up, take the time to make it a little easier to read. Punctuation and paragraphs, people. Please FFS. TLDR.

For me it's the other way around. Crafting revitalized the game, because instead of doing the tiresome work of getting some desired toys, I can spend more time on activities that I actually enjoy. Let me give you an example. I started playing LF like 8 days ago, and I already have all the red boarders for the pulse, the fusion, and I'm 1 red boarder away to get the HC, which is all I want from this damn planet. However there is also a Neomuna weapon that is not craftable, the SMG. I did the math, I have 1 / 2592 chance of getting my perfect roll, and you can only target farm it once every 3 days. That's just wasting my time. If you don't like crafting, you can always ignore it, and chase your desired weapons the old way. My main source of fun in this game is playing Crucible & Gambit. I farm if I have to, but when I play a videogame I prefer that it's a recreation not a second job. Also with crafting you have the opportunity to experiment with different perks on your own pace, without cloging your vault.

The whole reason I’m good at the game is crafting so, 🔄

I love crafting personally seeing my RNG is usually awful. That ship has sailed so basically it is what it is. Gun play is the best part of D2 so having 5 out 5 rolls to enjoy that aspect is pretty, pretty, pretty good. And my guy… Paragraphs please.

        • Crafting was one of the only good things they added and it took so long for it to even be good. It’s also still way too limited as is and there are plenty of loot sources completely reliant on luck. The game had far too much rng involved for literally everything. Cutting it down is a good thing. Like anything else in the game, if you don’t like it then don’t use it

        • Without crafting, what you get is Bungie dictating your rolls via RNG. Then what they do is provide weighted mix on the rolls to make the God roll perks super rare (it isnt balanced RNG). Why? To keep you "grinding" and spending time in game. If drops were truly random, you wouldn't be "grinding" much at all if you do the math. To each their own, but would rather avoid situations where Bungie can control things without transparency anymore. Grinding to overcome some artificial rarity RNG value Bungie set to manipulate my time is not a game I am willing to play with them. That is all I know.

        • Understand that I say this with intent and not as a troll or punk: Your “time sink” point is correct. It does require time to farm red borders and does take time to level them. BUT: this is where your point goes wrong. For the people out there that suck at luck, crafting is a time saver, not a time sink. You have to get a 5 out of 5 for the role you want. What are the chances? You may never get it. But if you craft it SAVES that time you could be using on grinding that godroll. As for randomness, it’s still there. There is still the random chance of a red border. So I don’t understand that. Every time I farm for red borders and I see the engram on the ground I get excited because it COULD be what I’m looking for. If it’s not, I just say “I’m gonna get it next time.” And when I do i feel that sense of accomplishment. I’m in no place to tell you how you feel. I can’t change how you feel. Perhaps you can’t either. But maybe I could let you see differently.

          • For me, i appreciate crafting. I play three characters and only have 600 vault space. I enjoy getting rid of guns in order to make my life streamlined. I can appreciate how the chase was fun for you…but for me its just work having to keep tabs on which perks are better/meta and then having to decide what to delete before the next season. I actually like that after so many years they would put less emphasis on the weapons you need/want and just make the activities you play with those guns more fun.

          • I completely disagree, because of crafting my builds are more functional than ever; and I’m able to play how I like because of it. I know many people like pursuing loot or have a targeted item to obtain but that’s not fun for me, it takes monumental effort for minuscule pay off. I’d also like to point out that crafting is an entirely optional too; there’s no consequence if you don’t use it; it just enables another way to play and makes the game a little more accessible.

          • Nah, Enhanced Perks are killing Destiny. Crafted guns have access to perks that can often make the gun simply better than a random drop. Crafting needs to be more bad luck protection and less of a main goal for players.

            • I don't mind the crafting. Grinding for the patterns is what I hate. I see no reason for already crafted weapons to drop from activities. They serve no purpose. It seems like the more weapons you get full patterns for, the harder it is to get the last patterns you need for other weapons because those finished weapons just bloat the loot pool.

            • Crafting is fine... Should of never been able to craft raid weapons, should have been adepts for raids.

            • I wish they would just sunsett all the crafted weapons . It was available via a season , now that the season is gone , the way to obtain a red border for that seasonal weapon is also gone so basicly it was a limited kinda thing . Red borders should always be available , if not then it should never have been a crafted gun in the first place . They could just bring back mars with escalation protocol so we could get ikeolos weapons and people would love it and play it everyday but no make a stupid season about clovis bray and let us farm seraph bunkers and bounties to get ikeolos red borders ?? To eventually remove it ... ? Same with other seasons like the leviathan one for example . And raid weapons should never be craftable because people do the whole raid like once or twice or maybe one more time just to get every raid weapon at least once then go to the final encounter and claim your free red border once a week and farm the heack out of it untill you have the rest of the red borders . It makes the whole raid useless and people don't do raids because they like them or to get a gun or armor , they only do it to craft some gun and move on . Look at vog , not a single craftable gun in there but people play vog all the time because it is a nice raid . Kings fall is also a nice raid but i rarely find a full team to do the whole raid and not just oryx because almost everyone already has all the crafted weapons , the same thing is happing with crota . People only do crota to craft guns , if there were no crafted guns in crota and a stupid quest for that exotic auto rifle then people would do all kind of stuff in destiny 2 but that time is over i guess .

              • Crafting was already the sure sign this game was going to die its slow death. D1 allowed us to reroll weapon rolls. D2 came soon after. Id expect the same for D2. Final shape sounds final enough to me.
