Hi there. Try switching to Incognito/Private mode in your browser to authenticate. If that doesn't work, switch to the mobile app (or browser if you're already on mobile). If you are seeing an error message what does it say?
Bungie Names can only be changed 1 time, from your profile Settings page. Changing your platform account name will have no effect. If you have not used your 1 name change, you may be entering an invalid character or part of the name violates the Code of Conduct.
If the page shows you don't have a name change available, then you cannot change it again.

I think I see it now, it is saying "You can only change your Bungie Name one time." but I don't remember when I would have changed it to "Guardian6978". Is there anyway I can contact Bungie and ask my Name be changed to my actual Gamer Tag DawnKnight1993?

If your name was Guardian'd, it means part of it violated the Code of Conduct. I am not privy to any information about your specific case that might explain why it was changed. Everyone gets only 1 name change. They cannot be reverted or changed again if you do not have a name change token available. Bungie has not yet announced if or when they might allow more name changes in the future. Stay tuned to the weekly TWABs or @BungieHelp on Twitter for news updates.

I don't think my name violated any guidelines, it's the same as it is on PS. How do you get a Name Change Token?

You don't. Everyone gets 1 name change to start with. If you don't have it, then it's already been used by you, or someone who had access to your profile and changed your name without your knowledge. No text saying "unavailable" would mean you can change your name. If it doesn't accept the change, see my first comment for instructions. If it doesn't save your desired name, you'd need to type something else.

I really appreciate you taking your time with helping me, it means a lot. I have tried changing it to different versions and it still didn’t work. After thinking back what I think happened was that I was rushing through the beginning, not paying attention and somehow must have slightly changed my name, using up my one name change, and locked it in for eternity. I’ve only just started playing, I just got to the tower to the very first time. Is there anyway for me to unbind myself from this situation and start a new account under the same steam account?
