It keeps people playing longer, which raises the "Play Time" statistic which bungie uses to determine how popular their game is, and to show their masters (in this case, Sony) how much people love playing the game.
I wonder if bungie realizes that Sony employees can read, and are likely in here reading the tombs of negative comments about the game.

True! But most of us still keep playing... PS5 çrashes have stopped me... It's a waste of time.

I still play, but not nearly as much. I used to no-life this game, but with all the changes and nerfs and time gates and level caps and the complete lack of sense from bungie, the game became less and less fun, and my play time dropped. I imagine a lot of players left completely, which would really hurt the Play Time number. A lot of players, like myself, started playing less and less. And that Play Time number kept dropping. But instead of making the game fun again, they put in things to extend the Play Time. Just my opinion, but if they made the game fun like it was, people would come back, new players would stick around, and the Play Time number would go up naturally. But I guess it's easier to just make us weaker and enemies stronger, and add ridiculous things like the boss getting all his health back after you kill him once. Again, just my opinion, but that's just lazy game design.
