Please put the pitchforks down and read this for a moment.
Auctions houses can work if done properly. Am I saying destiny is set up to accommodate an auction house? No. Hell no. Not by a long shot. HOWEVER, let’s take a look at what COULD work…
What do you need to support an in game economy? Currency. We have glimmer. I don’t think it’s a far stretch to say glimmer could be reworked to be the driving currency in the loot game. Player caps would have to be lifted, certainly. It can work.
There needs to be enough loot, I mean a LOT of loot. And in order to accommodate a TON of loot, you need to be able to diversify the loot. I believe there is an untapped market here that the game isn’t trying out. There are an infinite number of weapon archetypes that the devs simply aren’t testing out. All you have to do is mess around with weapon RPM and BOOM, you have a new archetype - now is it really that easy? No. Is it worth exploring? I would argue yes. After this, you need to look into increasing- yes I said it -the perk pools on weapons. Guaranteed this will piss off some anti-loot farmers, but bare with me. In order to give people a reason to shop the AH, they need to not be handed a god roll every 5 seconds. You can mitigate this by increasing the perk pool on weapons. This would make the god roll chase a lot steeper and would give those that had a coveted “god roll” a real piece of value.
Loot drop rates would also need to be addressed. Guaranteed if I play for an hour, I shard 5-10 legendaries. In my opinion, this is unacceptable. Lots of players would argue with me, but imagine if all you had to do to get a god roll was farm glimmer. This idea could literally please everyone - but probably not because you lot are some real glass half empty pessimists. I think regardless of auction house, loot drops need a big nerf, especially exotics. I’m sick of a cheapened loot grind experience. I used to enjoy grinding, now it just feels so cheap.
You need to specify what can and cannot be sold. I’m sure most of you reading this were thinking “this guys thinks exotics, raid weapons and trials weapons should be tradable, what a joke” - and you would be far from correct. Only. World. Drops. Yes, no raid weapons or armor to be sold on the AH. If you can’t beat tough content, sorry, you don’t get the loot. BUT, if you farm enough glimmer maybe you can buy the gun that will get you through that tough content.
Regarding the AH:
Pros:
The game establishes an economy, essentially creating a “game within a game” - this gives you more stuff to do. Allows you a chance at better loot without having to bang your head against a wall for 30 hours just to not get the god roll. Gives you a chance to find some ACTUAL value in repeat drops instead of just sharding everything. Glimmer farming would give players something of value to actually do in times of poopy content.
Cons:
Bungie would have to work harder. Loot drops would be more scarce and harder to get that god roll to actually drop (which I argue would make the loot chase more special and exciting). Grinding might become “glimmer farm simulator” - but I doubt it. Normies will rage in the forums.

20 RespostasI dont even need to read the post and I can say hell no

2 RespostasIn theory there might a way to do this properly but the is a Bungie game. Look at how they manage matchmaking, bug fixes, connection problems, deal with cheaters, etc. Even the most perfect marketplace would likely devolve into a complete farce.

1 ResponderSince everyone is saying no without even reading the post, I'm going to say yes. That's a great idea! (but I didn't read the post)

“Bungie would have to work harder.” That’s the nail in the coffin regardless of any other pro/con. Bungie have most of their staff working on Matter and other IPs. There are barely enough staff left working on D2 to maintain the game properly, never mind implement something that’s entirely new to both this game and to Bungie as a whole.

3 RespostasNope, just no. No auction house.

1 ResponderNo. Want loot, do the activities.
-
3 RespostasNo. Game is not built to support that type of economy system, and it never will.

18 RespostasNo. I’m not even going to bother reading your post, but just from the title alone I’m going to have to say “no.”
