The only reason I get attention for my gimmick is because people give to me. You don’t have to say something about it. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, just don’t say anything about it, because this whole conversation is giving it attention. Just ignore it and carry on.
licks finger
I'm not talking about your gimmick specifically, just gimmicks in general. The problem isn't that they get attention, it's that people use it as a substitute for better posts in their pursuit of it. People think gimmicks are the best way to stand out and have an identity on the forums, but that just isn't the case. Users like Aifos, Girraffalope, Nil, Longface, and others have a strong identity and reputation because of the content of their posts. They all have/had some kind of schtick that many of their posts follow, but it goes beyond being a simple gimmick. I know you're just as capable of making engaging threads, and OffTopic would be all the better for it. You have the power! There are things you've experienced that others haven't, so write about them! You have ideas that others won't think of, so write about them! If more people flex those creative muscles and put that energy into creating quality posts instead of quality gimmicks, OffTopic might end up being more than a ghost town.
Gimmicks are dumb.
