I'm not usually one to join in with the mass griping of certain topics - really, I could care less about microtransactions existing in the game, or streamers being an important part of its lifecycle. That said, this event just seems like its totally disconnected from the majority of the community.
First things first - event armor ornaments should always be obtainable by participating in the event. Like I said, I don't have an issue with MTX in general. What I have an issue with is seeing more stuff being released for MTX than we can actually get in game. This has been a massive issue for a long time - there are multiple seasons where upwards of 70% of new in-game items are only available through the store (not an exaggeration), and you can see it again here. There are relatively few earnable rewards for participating in the Guardian Games, but you can buy tons of stuff. When it comes to the armor - which is the most heavily marketed piece of the event - it should be obtainable through playing. I'm not surprised it has to be bought (cuz thats how its always been), but the event would be in a better spot if we actually got to play for it.
Also, the Guardian Games Cup is weak. Think about it: you release a new event in game, but then tell us that a huge focus is...watching Twitch streamers play? Not even us playing? And there's a set of rewards only available to the hand-picked streamers that nobody in the community has a shot at getting? Talk about a disconnect...with all the criticism of streamers having too much influence, this was just sloppy and shortsighted. I was excited to play GG until I realized that the most competitive part was reserved for a select few.
Anyway, I try not to be a hater, but these are just my initial thoughts. Gotta get in touch with your playerbase.
