When I'm actively aiming at or shooting a target, auto-aim should not pick up other nearby targets

My friends and I are constantly frustrated by this issue (on the PS4/PS5 version, at least; not sure about PC). If I'm aiming at someone and blowing him away (player or enemy, whatever), and another target briefly cuts in front (or really, it seems, anywhere near) my line of fire, the aim automatically tracks the new target. This ends up causing me to spread my fire among multiple targets, inevitably letting all of them live while I get blown away. Better to at least let me keep my fire concentrated on my one original target before allowing the aim to get dragged to a different target. Believe me, I appreciate the aim assist, considering how impossible it is for me to get fine grained control of such things with a PS4 controller. I just really can't stand this aspect of it. I'm sure there are cases where the current behavior makes sense, but I think it needs some work.
