Having read through everything i feel this is far more a issue with the state of PVP then it is with the Catalysts in PVP. If the weapons performed better in PVP or if PVP was better balanced it wouldn't be as painful an experience.
Also the weapon I was using is Ticuu's so it doesn't even apply to the seasonal Buff. I had thought of a few solutions after reading everything.
- When seasons change the requirements on the seasonal weapons catalyst change.
-Giving a PVP and PVE option for each catalyst with the PVP option granting WAY more progress then PVE.
- a SBMM playlist that isn't Kill Limited (I'm looking at you Elimination).
If you want people playing the game. making one experience feel like a cheese grater to the head isn't the way to draw people in. I do actually enjoy PVP Just... honestly... Not in Destiny anymore.

when seasons change the catalyst requirements do not change, the percentage buff to complete it is what changes. if it is that meaningful for you to have it complete it while you have the easiest path of doing so, the reason behind the seasonal buff.

I feel like the weapons are fairly balanced. You need to stay within your guns ideal range. If you are in too close or too far away, your guns won't perform to their best and you probably won't get that kill. Bows are tough to use. If you aren't a regular with them, you can't expect it to be easy....
