Eh. I think this would go very poorly.
Somethings should stay in history. Raid sets in particular. Like if you see a guardian with a full Leviathan's transmog set, you know they've been raiding for a while.
Being able to buy old exotic weapons is one thing as some of them are extremely useful, Anarchy in particular...and if you missed your chance at it before, it sucks...but armor. I don't know...I think it should be maintained as a way to tell your guardians story.
Maybe for some of the older random world drop armors of old...but old activity based ones like raids, Black Armory, Menagerie, Ikelos, etc should be left for those that had them before.

If there's one thing Luke Smith was right about it was the, you had to be there moments. Not forced ones of course, but armor does fall into this category. I still have screenshots of my fireteam after the very first raid I ever did in Destiny. All the armor in my collections, I can transmog and say I was there. I beat that boss, I mastered that activity, I earned that gear. To go through all of Destiny with all those memories then have everything I worked so hard for just for sale in a kiosk would mitigate all the work I put into getting that gear. Not everyone should be able to get everything. Like you said exotics are one thing but legendary weapons/armor that have been removed are just part of Destiny's history now, and part of most of our stories. May be an unpopular opinion but my gear and what I have is what separates my 6, almost 7 year old guardian from someone who started the game yesterday.

Honestly I mostly am striving for Noble Constant, Ego Talon, and Frumuious. The RNG system hasn’t been kind to me.
