what’s a memorable thing someone has said to you?

like, something someone has told you or something you heard that has stuck with you ever since? mine would either be the time i was talking down about myself to my bf and he stopped me mid-sentence and says, “you know, when you talk about yourself like that, it makes me upset.” it kinda shocked me because no one had ever done something like that before. or the time a random stranger at the water park, who had just gotten off the ride, walked past me and my sister and said “you will get wet! you WILL get wet! even with a poncho, you will get wet!” which was hilarious and became a running inside joke that we quote from time to time
but most importantly... this gem: “all of the birds died in 1986 due to reagan killing them and replacing them with spies that are now watching us. the birds work for the bourgeoisie.”
• I’ve been trying to think on this for a little bit, but I can’t think of any specific quotes.. Not meaningful quotes anyway. Lots of nonsensical ones, though. When I look back, and think about the things that stuck with me, what comes to mind aren’t specific things people said, but moments, and how they made me feel. And for that, two things come to mind. The first was back in middle school. We were told to write a short story for class, and I wrote this thing called the Temple of Time. I was really proud of it, and everyone I showed it to—including the teacher—loved it. I don’t remember what anyone said specifically (and to be honest, at least a few of them were probably just being nice), but suddenly, this was the moment I realized I loved to write. It was probably the defining moment in my life that made me who I am. I don’t remember what anyone said, but I remember thinking after their comments that this is what I wanted to do. This is who I wanted to be. Next up, now we’re in the future, I’m just about to graduate from high school. My creative writing teacher approached me in class one day and handed me a big picture frame, and inside was a writing award. At the time I received it, I was one of two people who’d ever gotten it. Once again, I don’t remember exactly what she said, but I remember feeling.. I’m not entirely sure how to describe it. Proud, I suppose. Maybe in a bit of disbelief? Although, apparently I was supposed to receive it on a stage, but after a somewhat silly series of events, I wound up not even knowing I was supposed to be there. I wish I had gotten it on stage, though.
