Im starting to feel like this gun is criminally underused compared to Spare Rations and Dire Promise when Thorn is clearly superior in so many ways. The things that Thorn can do are:
-Kills in 2 Crit 1 Body without Soul Devourer(5 resilience or less)
-Becomes the most forgiving Hand Cannon by far with Soul Devourer boosting its damage to 96 on a crit and 71 on a body
-Can track people behind walls
-Stops opponents from regen for a while
-Easy to manage recoil( I play on Console btw)
-Easily the farthest reaching hand cannon by far with Soul Devourer pushing to around 33 meters
-Deals insane amounts of flinch because of the DoT and the effects on the opponents screen
-Crazy Handling and Fluidity
-It has 85 AA and Perfect Recoil
-Theoretically never needing to reload as long as you continuously get kills
-This is one of the only primaries that legit can outright dump on 600 rpm autos that have a 0.7 TTK, deal crazy flinch and kill at very far ranges.
And while there are SOME downsides to Thorn being
a pretty slow reload speed and 9 bullets in the mag, they are easily remedied if not mitigated. Equip some reloader perks to fix the reload speed and Soul Devourer removes the downsides of a low mag size. Also this gun is only top tier if you have an aggressive play-style and are willing to push constantly but smart, which most crucible players play passively as shown with the amount of Autos and Mountaintops. And even with all of the upsides and benefits that Thorn gives a player, there are so many people that strongly believe that Spare and Dire are way better.
Last to thing to note is that there are rumors of a catalyst for thorn that will give it 20+ range and 30+ stability giving Thorn a total of 84 range and 90 stability, which will make this gun just flat out disgusting and probably borderline OP.
Lets start a discussion. Feel free to voice your opinions.

I’ve been liking the Thorn lately. I brought out the Rose with a fully upgraded masterwork and it just wasn’t the same.
-
People don’t use it more since you can’t put on Icarus grip and if you’re not airborne taking advantage of your movement (aka top tree dawnblade and hunters) you’re not getting that much of a benefit out of it. Titans and other warlock subclasses on the other hand would be fine since you aren’t airborne that much to begin with so you’d benefit a decent bit from it.

2 RespostasEditado por Insatiable: 8/27/2020 6:03:17 AMAs a die-hard thorn player , it's not necessarily underused but not preferred because its not overstatted like spare or easy to use like dire . It has a relatively unfriendly recoil pattern on console comparative to the previous two and people can't stand not having insane stability to negate the skill factor in hand canons .
-
I've seen enough high end players using Thorn to have twigged its good. It seems to be in a very good place right now.
-
I'm seeing people talk about how it's harder to use and kicks like a mule compared to Dire... When with Thorn I just spam shots with no pacing at mid range and still hit all crits where with Dire I have to slightly pace. Thorn definitely has watermelons for crit hitboxes.

Shhhhhh!

-
Thorn is underused? I wish I saw your lobbies I'm running into it all the time.
-
1 ResponderYep, terribly underused...in PvE. Quite the opposite in PvP.
-
1 ResponderJust judging based off the title....but what? Really? I’m on Xbox and it’s everywhere. Maybe it’s just me but I see it in PvP and PvE
-
I think it's more to do with the class/playstyle being used. Now obviously, all classes can use Thorn, but since it's an Exotic, it can't take an Icaus mod, so its in-air play is unreliable; especially for straight up duels. If you're on things like Hunter or top tree Dawnblade, using Thorn just limits all the in-air potential you have(unless you activate Heat Rises on the latter), which is probably the biggest benefit to using those options. So things like Dires, Spares, and Vigils with Icarus mods, or even NF with its intrinsic in-air accuracy are better for playing the aforementioned characters more to their full potential. However, if you're on a class/subclass that often plays more grounded for Primary usage like Titans or the other Warlock subclasses, then you're not missing out on too much.
-
If it had a catalyst I would use it more as it is still iconic. But it has not so I never use it except very occasionally to do a quick handcannon kills bounty.

Here’s the reason people use legendaries over exotics in 90% of pvp scenario’s. You can spec legendaries and search for a roll that fits what you want, where as exotics aren’t customizable, they have a somewhat limited aspect in terms of what you can do with them. Also they don’t take up a exotic slot.

1 ResponderThorn is dope, an absolute beast of gun, its just that I would be more accurate at firing Rose and consistently landing shots. Thorn seems to jump around slightly, I would say, I prefer even Lumina over Thorn due to it also maybe being more consistent, at least for me anyway. If I need a hand cannon for PVP chances are its an Eriana's Vow due to damage. Thorn and Lumina have a better place likely in anything PVE, where they really shine with their intrinsic perks!

3 RespostasEditado por Swiftlock: 8/26/2020 5:04:59 PMA lot of players understandably don't use the weapon because of the bloom and awkward sights. And if you HAVE the skill to be consistent with Thorn... you will do just fine with Dire/Spare while keeping your exotic slot free.
-
1 ResponderGo 2 hc for pvp would definitely like to see a catalyst for it something like sunshots or a damage booster would be nice
-
Bloom on console is already annoying. In addition to Thorn's kick and it's weird reticle, I wouldn't be surprised that it's usage isnt that high
-
1 ResponderBeen using it a lot lately, loads of fun and extremely effective weapon.
-
1 ResponderThe “Bloom” on it is terrible tho
-
3 Respostasshh, don’t let my favorite gun get out.
-
1 ResponderAll I'm going to say is I tried using thorn for a game. Then I got dumped on my autos. I said to myself "I could use the shard." Its solid in pve, but the recoil pattern and the lack of in air accuracy sucks. Don't expect me to extend my ttk so I can pace my shots, gnawing hunger dosen't care abojt that and doesn't need to pace its shots to get a quicker ttk.
-
1 ResponderLet’s keep it that way. The last thing I want is for a meta of Thorn which results in a massive nerf that destroys the gun in the sandbox.
