Why fighting games suck (my opinion)

Alright let's start from the top, -Most "new" fighting game that gets released is basically a reskin of the last game. Ex: the new smash bros game is a lot like the last one except some new characters and maps. Another example: the new mortal kombat game is like the other one except new characters, maps, and fatalities. -Repetitivety. Constantly fighting each other until someone (or everyone) dies. This in my book makes for a game that gets pretty boring fast. -And remember that each fighting game that comes out costs 60.00, with that money you could buy a game with hundreds of hours of content, like quests to complete, or a well crafted game with a great and memorable narrative. They could at least lower the price for fighting games to 40.00 or something like that. -Controls. The controls take forever to get used to, especially coming from a person who usually picks up on the controls for a game pretty easily. Anyways, there's so many combo moves and stuns and aerial attacks and finishers to memorize, a game shouldn't be like memorizing information for a test or, in a fighting games case controls And that about all I have to say. Grim of the Abyss, challenge modes, etc. Beyond that, all multiplayer games are the same way, what do you expect? Skullgirls, for instance. Really great story, and plenty to do. [quote]-Controls. I enjoy learning how to counter enemy moves. Instead of Mortal Kombat, or Smash, I’d recommend trying BlazBlue or Skullgirls. I’ve heard Guilty Gear is good, too. Mortal Kombat is just bad, and Smash puts a unique twist on the genre that imo actually puts it in a separate genre called “brawlers”, so it’s not a good representation. It’s not a genre for everyone, but it can be really fun if you want to put in the time.

    • I used to play then back in the Street Fighter II and first few Mortal Kombat days. They have barely changed in that amount of time aside from graphic improvements. I just got bored with them. Same thing happened to me with online FPS multiplayer vs games.

          • I started writing out a detailed response but I realised something: These are not flaws. Some of your issues are generalisations of the genre, which is never valid criticism. You should never judge an entire genre as though each example of that genre is identical. It's always the individual product you should judge. Anyway, here's the rundown: You want story? Find a fighting game with story. You want simpler controls? Find a fighting game with simpler controls. If you look for it, it's there. And my final point: A sequel being similar to its predecessor? That's the point of a sequel.

            • Few Rebuttals - While a lot of fighting games can be similar to each other, there are several that vary from the last one. For example, let’s use an example you used the new MK. There are actually quite a few differences from the last one. Changes like the overall slower pace & meter changes & new mechanics such as krushing blows & fatal blows fundamentally change how MK11 is played compared to MKX. - While this depends on the person (everyone has different tastes & all), every game has a level of repetitiveness to it. For example, at it’s core ******* is shooting aliens, waiting for your super to charge, using your super, repeat, get loot. - Can’t really argue with this since everyone has different tastes & values money differently, so I’ll give you this one. - Again, complex controls apply to every game. Only difference with fighting games is that the skill ceiling is much more defined than in most games.

                    • Literally depends on what you want. You could say the exact same things about FPS. Personally, I enjoy fighting games cuz they’re good one and done games y’know? Like a quick match never hurts. They’re a ton of fun with friends as well. Hrrrm but yea your opinion is respectable. Every one of us is into different games.
