It's just weird to me that after so long, we only have monthly events that are more associated with PvP rather than PvE. You could argue that Faction Rally is the PvE event, but it's not completely PvE focused, plus the Factions were originally a PvP thing.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was something like Iron Banner where once a month for a week, there was some kind of special activity entirely focused on PvE?
Shaxx has always said how he could use us in his Red Jacks, so why not turn this piece of dialogue plus all of the lore behind Shaxx's little army into a full blown PvE event?
In the Strikes Playlists during this Red Jack event, which we will call "Red Jack Assault", Shaxx has 6 Guardians help keep the Crucible arenas secure for the Crucible.
It's a horde-mode activity where the 6 Guardians are tasked with fighting of waves of enemies on the various PvP maps while performing various tasks like dismantling mines or killing VIP targets before they reach a destination. There are a total of 7 wave. The first 2 are simple foot soldier waves. Waves 3-5 are when the team will need to complete various. Waves 6 and 7 are the hardest waves with more enemies having shields, more tasks are being activated at once, and Wave 7 being a final boss. Wiping at any time during this activity will automatically end it, so it's important to try and advance to the final wave if you can.
The rewards are obtained by completing the different sections of the activity. Completing the first 2 waves will reward the players with Red Jack shaders. Completing waves 3, 4, and 5 will reward you with an exclusive Red Jack emote, sparrow, or ship. Finally, completing waves 6 and 7 will reward you with either a Red Jack weapon or armor piece.
Also, just like Iron Banner, no Eververse is needed. However, there are two differences. The first that you noticed is that you get the rewards by completing the activity. Second difference is that there are no tokens needed, you get the rewards by playing the activity. However, there will be Red Jack tokens from completing the activity's daily challenges. Completing all daily challenges will reward you 9 tokens, which is just enough to let you rank up once a day and essentially get a "freebie" reward.
Anyways, I just thought I'd share my thoughts on a true PvE event for Destiny in the future. Let me know what you guys think.
