I've already done all of the challenges. I would say my raiding specialty is actually running sword for crota. I do that best out of all things. Now with the weapons bubble, I'm able to take him down well below half health. And I enjoy teaching new people how to run sword, I think it's really fun to do it.
The last time crota was on, I found a team on LFG who needed to do crota. This was on reset so not many people have completed challenge mode yet, and I joined these guys. They asked if I've done challenge mode yet, and I said no, but I know how to run sword pretty well. So, they booted me. I said, hey man, I know how to run sword and I know how challenge works. They then just ignored so I left the chat and found a new team. With the new team we completed crota fairly quickly. I go back to orbit, put on my brand new shiny emblem, put on my adept fang of ir yut and enjoyed the moment. All of a sudden, the same dickhole sent me an invite to join his team. Are you kidding me? Do you think after that, I would join you? Out of pity, maybe.
So today, crota is on again and, about the same thing happens. I find an LFG team, joined up, everything was good for me. A mother guy joined. The fireteam leader asked for everyone to put on emblem, and in my mind I was just saying this is pointless but still put it on anyways. Then, a guy said he has never completed challenge mode yet he knows how to run sword and how challenge works. Same thing, he got booted. I immediately told the leader to invite him back in, as he knows how to run sword. We launched up crota, we got a bubble up for him, and he took crota down to about half health which is very good.
Moral of the story, don't kick people for not have completing challenge modes before. Especially if it's something like crota where there's no new mechanic but rather a change in the team. Even the best people have to start somewhere.
Don't get me wrong, but I will kick people for not knowing what to do, for being bad or can't work with the team. Especially if they don't know why to do, which most of the time people lie their way in. Which from that prospective I would understand why you'd want the emblem, but at the same time I don't want to limit genuinely good people out who cant find a team. I will never require someone to have done it before unless it's something I urgently need done.
EDIT: in both occasions the post didn't mention anything about emblems. I rarely ever join LFG groups but I'm doing it this week to help people out with sword bearing.

I absolutely will require emblems on VoG, KF and WotM challenge weeks (CE is easy). I have spent dozens of hours and hundreds of wipes on no skill guardians looking for a carry. I've involuntarily sherpa'd many. I won't feel one lick of remorse for kicking anyone who shows up in my raid team without the pre-requisites I specify in my forum post. No exceptions. If I make exceptions for one I have to make them for all and then it's moot. Now if you have Valor in Darkness that's even better. I may even require that emblem for every challenge week raid team I assemble in the future, once I get it from killing the Gorgons. Edit: Now have Valor of Darkness.
