Better question. Why do people leave?
- Too sweaty (6 snipers gets old quick)
- Red bars
- Team that doesn't play the objective
- You're a parent and your kid started crying or w/e
You see why you can't punish people for quitting?

I see your point but how often do you run into a team full of sweaties? I play rift a lot and yes theres a lot of games where i played teams of sweaties, but someone leaving only makes it harder to beat them. If you give up, youre just giving them an easier win encouraging them to continue on their rampage, so just try instead of giving up. Red bars: its not like you run into them every game, and even when you do, its not like they have some godly power. Most cases it hinders them. IIRC bungie implemented a lag referee which i know isn't perfect, but still a red bar is enough to cause you to abort?? Teams that don't play objective: same point as playing against sweaties. You giving up just makes it worse for people like me who actually stick around for the comeback You kid needs you/other interruptions: is you kid calling for you every game? No. If they are they you probably shouldn't be playing at that moment. This system doesn't punish you the moment you abort. Only if you continuously do it, which is unlikely in this situations and other related to this.

Why do you still play this game if this is truly your experience? It doesn't sound fun.

Literally everything else about the game is fun. Getting matched up against people who can kill you through walls, and eat all of your bullets without taking damage is extremely frustrating though.

The problem is that it happens too often that's why people quit. I don't quit matches because the rep is still good even if you lose.

Just imagine how much easier those comebacks are if people actually stayed and tried. I'll say it again the point of the penalty system is to promote people to stay and try, which is bound to lead to some success. If not then boo hoo that was a fair victory for the other team. At least you tried, so there was some chance to win. Leaving almost completely eliminates that chance.
