Interesting theory. I like the concept of trying to put "science" to what is considered Light and Darkness.. Especially the hive and their ability to survive death.

I've always seen "the light" as some sort of microscopic particle. What it is beyond that, other than the fact that it is beneficial (and perhaps, as you said, necessary) is beyond me. I'm not even sure if Bungie themselves thought about it that far in depth.
