  • It isn't a gun problem, as criminals will always have guns. It's a criminal problem. If a good amount of people were trained on how to use a gun and carried one at all times, most shootings would be stopped like these were. It's easiest for criminals to perform shootings in gun free zones like schools and states like California with strict gun laws.

  • Yah I know. There's actually statistics that show states with lenient gun laws having lower amounts of shootings. Most of thoes places aren't in the city though so what works for certain states might not work for others. I don't want to believe that the solution to guns is more guns but I can see how it makes sense.

  • I'm personally quite skeptical about any statistic when it comes to this subject. I just feel that there isn't credible enough evidence to determine what effect gun laws overall have from a public safety perspective. Federal funding for gun violence research became banned after it was pushed by the NRA. I am very distrustful of the 'more guns less crime' hypothesis because of this, I don't deny that some places with lenient gun laws have low rates of crime and firearm deaths, I just feel we don't have the full picture.

  • I live in Alaska, and we have lenient gun laws. We have a few major cities. Anchorage (where I live), fairbanks, Juneau, and Wasilla. There's more, but those are the largest from my knowledge. I can't remember the last time we had a shooting that wasn't a domestic dispute. The last thing I remember is a murder suicide between a girl and her girlfriend several years ago. People fail to realize that America is a incredibly diverse nation with many cultural and racial differences, and we also have a lot of gang violence (which likely attributes most to our gun violence), while other nations do not have these problems. Another thing that's worth noting is that when Australia (I think it was Australia, anyway) put stricter gun laws into place, while gun violence went down everything else went up. Aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, and pretty much any other crime you could think of that harms another person. Banning guns does not fix problems that we have in our head, it just makes it so we have to kill with something else.
