The impact of RNG in this game is too much, which is the only reason I am fine with Xur giving exotics away. Personally I think it breeds envy and hostility because it is too common that someone newer gets something that his day 1 friend doesn't have and wants very badly. Given how much RNG impacts this game and how casual-friendly it has become, I am seriously considering finding something else to play. I'm not mad or bitter, but I think I would rather quit than do what everybody else has done which is to cry to Bungie to make changes that ruin the game for others.
As far as Gjallarhorn goes, I wish they would just nerf the thing already. It goes a long way in marginalizing a lot of content. It gives players way more room for error than intended and helps too much in allowing players to circumvent boss mechanics. It would be interesting if Bungie made a modifier that reduces the damage of heavy weapons. And before somebody comments, I currently have 4 Gjallarhorns.

This is my issue. Yes the game can be completed without a certain weapon. However it's the rng, grind/reward ratio. One grinds for hours at only a chance at a weapon. Similarly and more frustrating that one can get a weapon on his first run out while someone playing forever may still be waiting. It really is unequal.

I personally would have liked for Exotic to never randomly drop. I would have liked them to be purchased for something like 200+ strange coins or for exotic bounties to be purchased for 100+. I don't like they are RNGed or given away by Xur on weekends. I think people would be less upset about not having certain exotics if it was laid out for them what they had to do to get them. Yes, we would still get players whining about not having time to get what they want but there wouldn't be nearly as many of them. I don't think it's the grinding that really pisses people off, it's the grinding combined with uncertainty.
-
Yes the grind plus uncertainty is what gets me. Make it where something unlocks ever 100 hour or so. Something. Not complete uncertainty when we're pulling in hundreds of hours on hope.
-
Or have weapons unlock after some number of raids, some number of strikes, etc.

The reason(as far as I can tell) that they do not nerf it is because it promotes an "elite" within the community. -As you can see Falnano making that argument in the comment below you. It would also require the current PVE content being retooled to fit the average weapon, so I think that realistically bungie will never nerf it. Unlike PVP content, balance in PVE is tooled around "top gear".
-
So don't use the weapon and let people who want to use it keep using it. Don't cry nerf nerf nerf. People like you are what ruins this game. I miss auto rifles. Not because they were OP, but that's the type of weapon I like to use. Yet people like you ruined my experience because they are trash now.

Edited by Ice Lantern: 5/27/2015 9:05:43 AMI don't typically ask for nerfs but THIS ONE WEAPON is clearly having a bad effect on the content. Unlike most people, I don't want it nerfed for my own benefit. It's not like I am crying that I keep losing to it in PvP. I want it nerfed because I think it has a negative effect on the game. And while the "then don't use it" argument seems valid, it's a surefire way to not get into groups and/or get kicked out for taking a stance. I suppose it's real easy to point at people and say that they are ruining the game for you when you are able to complete content because of an overpowered crutch. I can easily say the same about people like you. You guys want everything easy and trivial and that ruins the game for people like me. By the way, MUTED.

You do have a valid point how some groups wont accept people without it and that is wrong. Very valid points.

Oh im talking to myself, he muted me :(
