I immediately tried blotting it up with a paper towel, but it has become evident to me now hours later that some of it had gotten beneath the keyboard and now my arrow keys in the bottom right corner of my laptop are completely gummed up. This is completely unacceptable, but at this point, I'm not entirely sure how I should proceed.
My room mate suggested popping the keys off my keyboard to get at the gunk beneath, but I imagine that they might not reattach as easily as they come off if I did it incorrectly. I was thinking of trying to wash out the affected area with water, but that also seems like it could have potentially dire consequences.
For reference, my Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400, and the keyboard looks exactly like the one pictured in the post.

Take out the keys... They'll fit right back in.

Keyboards come off easy. Just pull it out, clean it up and put them back in their place.

Now we all know why computer labs don't allow food and drinks. Go figure.

I vomited all over my laptop once. I cleaned it out completely by taking it apart but when it came to the keyboard is was just easier to buy a new one. Check newegg/ebay for some.

2 RepliesThe easiest thing, although it isn't as cheap, is just to buy a replacement. The Keyboard keys can be removed, but it is tricky to reattach them. Youtube can probably teach you how to do it correctly. Cleaning the surface underneath might be a little tricky too, considering that the surface is a thin circuitboard. If it were me, I'd just drop the $30 and replace it. It'll take a bit of time to clean it out, and it will never really feel the same. A new keyboard will also feel much nicer. My laptop had a screen replaced on warranty, and they brought in a few miscellaneous parts with it (to my surprise) including the keyboard. You don't realize how much better your keyboard felt when it was new.

1 ReplyWhen my keyboard keys started to go i just plugged in a new keyboard into the laptop. It takes a bit to get used to but its a good fix.

I'd just take extra care into taking out the buttons and cleaning them and putting them back in. It seems like quite the chore but hell, mine as well tried before it's irreparable
