*Demon slaughtering stops*
-
What about the drought?
I'll leave.
-
Chief did for a time, they where stopped from achieving their goals on the Ark
but there is always more Flood, hopefully in Halo Infinite
-
Higher dimensional beings, inorganic non-cybernetic beings, and anything that can infect better like The Thing do.
-
There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and...
...nothing beats the Flood.
If you want to go crazy with it, you could also say Deadpool and just have him kill the writers before anything even happens. When things like reality bombs, fourth wall breaks and time altering plot devices enter the mix, shit gets out of hand.
-
Except the Faro Plague for the reasons stated above.
-
Nothing beats the Flood.
It's something we all must accept.
-
Doesn’t suicide beat the flood?
-
Mentally, maybe. But you still get turned into Flood goo.
-
But the halo array...
-
Kills them. There was a misconception that it doesn't, but the HW2 Phoenix Logs clarify that Halo kills Flood forms but not the actual Flood cell. As far as I know, the only thing that's done that was the Flood itself when it began eating itself in the expanded universe.
-
I thought the halo rings wiped out all sentient life in the galaxy? I suppose tho seeing as the forerunners tried this and it failed... then suicide wouldn’t beat the flood... (even though the forerunner flood labs are the main reason the flood returned)
-
Modificato da Capt Explodabob: 1/14/2019 7:50:36 PMThey do. When it comes to a Flood host the nervous system is destroyed by the pulse (like every other living being in the galaxy), rendering the biomass inert, effectively "killing their food." The surviving Flood cells then starve to death without anything left to infect. What's never explained, though, is how the Flood retains its memory regardless of what happens to its physical form. Space magic, I suppose.
-
That’s explained by the fact that all flood ever even ones in diff galaxies controlled by diff grave minds are the concentrated mental persona of the precursors. Or at the very least they are the last precursor whose memory is retained by every single flood spore. Ultimately the reason flood beats everything is if they have star roads.

The Forerunner Saga establishes that the Flood is the result of the genocide acted out against the Precursors by the Forerunners. At some point the Precursors were either forced to, or chose to reduce themselves to an essence which became corrupt over the couse of the millions of years that it laid dormant. Once the essence re-emerged and came into contact with living organisms, it began to progressively mutate them and turn them hostile, creating the early stages of the Flood. We know the genesis of the Flood, we know how the Flood relate to the Precursors, and we know of the Flood's connection to the Domain through the Precursors; what we don't know is how the Flood actually retains information, because it's never detailed in the lore. It's possible that Key Minds act as data repositories, and once a Gravemind is formed it taps into the nearest node. Alternatively, it could just be some esoteric concept that relates to neural physics (AKA space magic). But until an official source establishes it, there's no real answer.
-
I don’t think it can be explained unless it’s through something like the primordial or another gravemind, an entity responsible for storing and distributing the memories where needed I suppose it would be possible for the memory to be passed on thru genetics since the flood consumes other living creatures. But those are just theories... I don’t think it has been confirmed in the lore
-
No, the flood can use dead corpses, as long as there is still biomass left.
-
So what was the point of the halo rings, and where are the forerunner bodies?
-
The Halo Rings kill their food. Starve them out.
-
Exactly, the only way the forerunners were able to see themselves beating the flood
-
I can’t say I agree on the “nothing can beat the Flood”, but definitely not the Faro Plague.
-
There’s plenty of things I can think of that can... a reality bomb from Dr Who is an easy choice But in terms of video games, not much comes to mind I could see a lot ending in stalemates since the flood are hard to exterminate, all they need is one parasite and then all hell breaks loose. If they could survive the flood, that’s one thing, but completely eradicating the flood is much harder
-
Not really the flood are the twisted Corpse puppets of the Precursors a really so powerful even death doesn’t stop them. They can be completely destroyed and yet they can still re materialise a new body. Hell they’ve even been stated to exist in non corporeal forms I.E ghosts. My theory is that they don’t belong to this universe and instead what they do is insert themselves into it via constructs so to them flesh and bone is what metal and wiring is to us. Something to make a machine out of.
