It seems more like being an ass just for the sake of being an ass.
If you're going to mute just do it and move on. Announcing it looks just as much like a cry for attention as an all caps topic title from my perspective.
No one is going to stop people from making topics like this. No one is going to stop people from making the just as annoying "muted" comments either. What you're saying is just as important as what the OP is saying, which isn't very.

I think it would be rude of me to mute them and not tell them why. Its kind of like seeing a guy with his fly down. Do you say something, or let him go about his day? I am just trying to help, think of it as a public service announcement. And there is no copy and pasting here, I put a little love into every letter I type. If my replies were a cry for attention, it would be kind of silly of me to mute them wouldn't it? If I want attention, then I would want them to reply wouldn't I? Thank you for your input.
