Steam not being attacked at all doesn't mean they stopped an attack.
That would be like saying a stone wall is better than an iron wall when the iron wall was constantly hit while the stone was not.

I know Sony's security blows but I don't think it's much worse than any of it's competitors.

Your level of security doesn't matter to a DDoS attack. Its not a hack, its not a breach of security. Its as if millions of requests are sent to servers, causing an overload.
