I'd just like to add that you only see increased drop rates inside darkness zones. I normally skip "public" or Patrol area's on a strike and run straight into the darkness. I'll chew through the darkness and keep running until I hit the next zone or the boss. Every Legendary i've gotten in a strike has been a drop in a darkness zone or a completion reward.
