The thing is, those aren't situations created by the developer. If the best you'll ever feel in a game is through a chance situation, then something is wrong. If you've ever played Dark Souls, the game is full of stuff that makes you feel epic. Every boss, every level, every victory makes you feel like a badass, like you accomplished something.
