I'm typically a runner in so much as there's just so much "daily maintenance" to get done each day. However, I do see value in hitting higher level mobs not just for a potential drop but to help earn XP to level up all the legendary/exotic guns I've got sitting in my queue. You can combine bounties with mob kills in strikes and get additional XP....
