I think its actually a great idea! One it would be cool to be able to change the melee weapons of some. Like say titans get a arc battleaxe or crazy light sword, and the warlocks could summon a sword and could choose to use it as a melee or as range like the throwing knife, and the hunter could change their knife to a katana or machete. Two because it would add to customization, combat, and character diversity having them each have their own type of melee weapons.

Swords with no type of lunge and you have to get into a shotguns blast radius to use it. Sounds so smart.

It could be nice. Just looking at Warhammer 40k , there is a lot of different close combat weapon there.

I for one would love to have different swords for each weapon slot. Primary swords: similar to Fallen captains, guardians would wield 2 short swords. Right trigger: would activate a double sword swing combo. would be made for fast damage per second, instead of heavy damage. right bumper: would activate a double thrust with the swords, inflicting 4 times damage of a single light attack strike. Left trigger+Direction: a swift dodge similar to the fallen sword wielders, this would allow you to dodge multiple types of attacks, and would provide a brief invincibility frame, after 3 dodges, a dodge meter would appear, and would take 30 seconds to recharge. Super: blade dancer style super which would align itself with whatever element that your sub class was aligned with. There would be alternate primary swords similar to the sword of crota, but would have a dodge animation instead of what special swords would have. Special Swords: similar to the sword of Crota, Guardians would wield only one of these. shaped like a more sleek version of Crota's sword. Right trigger: same as sword of Crota. right bumper: same. Left Trigger: same Super: same. there would be dual wielded special swords, allowing for people to use those in a similar manner to the sword of crota. Heavy swords: similar to the Sword of Crota, but larger, unlike their special and primary counters, these weapons would require charges(heavy weapon ammo) to use. Guardians would drag them along the ground slightly(no hindering speed) Right Trigger: a 3 hit combo, swinging the heavy blade horizontally twice, then slamming it in front of you. this would cost 2 charges Right bumper: a single, two handed smash, driving the blade into the ground, causing a shock wave at your feet. this would cost 4 charges. Left trigger: a wide swing of the sword, hitting anyone in front of you and to your sides. any oncoming projectiles(except supers, would be deflected. this would not affect any radiance enforced attacks. this would consume half of your charges. Super: your guardian would leap into the air and slam the blade into the ground, sending a shock wave in all directions(similar to FoH) aligned with your subclass' element. this would one hit kill any guardian in its radius while depleting all of your charges. All alternate swords would function the same way as their aligned slot would, that way players would not be stuck using one type of sword per slot. example: I am a shotgun user, and i would love to use a sword similar to crota's as a primary. Swords that could be available: note, all would be rare, but would have legendary versions of the same sword and each could be assigned to whichever weapon slot you wanted except for heavy. Primary- Blades of Cosmos and Nebula Dual blade type and Single blade type respectively. Element: this would apply to it's super which would only depend on your sub class. Secondary- Swords of Dawn and dusk single blade type and dual blade type respectively Heavy- Blade of the hindered. Heavy blade Type. Exotics- Swords of Crota, Hope, and Mystery. Single blade, dual blade and heavy blade respectively. Crota and Hope could be placed in either primary or special. Crota unique perk and quote: DARKNESS: kills with this weapon wreath you in a dark cloud(think sunsinger) which consumes the light of those around you(FoH radius) basically after you get one kill, anyone within a certain range will have their health drained and given to you. [i] "Those who fall, will feed your hunger..."[/i] Hope unique perk and quote: LUMINESCENCE: after your first kill, you gain a bright white aura(you character model becomes bright white) and all allies within range gain weapons of light, shields of light and force barrier(continuous recharge) [i] "We cannot give up hope"[/i] Mystery unique perk and quote: Strangeness. upon every kill, you vanish into the night. this grants you invisibility for a brief period, can be recharged upon getting a kill. [i] "It doesn't matter who you were, only who you will become..."[/i]

I wouldn't be surprised if there are melee weapons in this game seeing as how Halo had them.

Can someone help me on this: I thought the hunters bladedancer subclass lets you use a sword for melee... no?

If there are swords they have been kept under VERY tight wraps, with only one mention that I could find, in the weekly update, saying one was claimed from an ancient grotto. EDIT: That said, I want a sword. Gotta be good though. Maybe multiple types of swords, some with faster swing speeds, lower damage, big slow swords etc.
