Seems like a large bunch of the community want proximity chat so I think it will be used.

Until they realize how terrible it would be while in places like the Tower or having to listen to idiots running around in the open world. Or that one rager in PvP.

I gotta agree with space here. Everyone thinks they want it but the second they get it they will so quickly mute every player they meet that they will never use it.

I'm sure that the radius of proximity chat will be reduced in densely-populated areas such as the tower. If someone comes across an idiot in the open world, I'm sure that Bungie will implement the mute feature, which is rarely used in any videogames. [spoiler]That last part was sarcasm.[/spoiler]
