Maybe the empathy section of your brain didn't develop properly, it seems to require some especially strong stimuli to even function. I can easily care about X and Y.

Priorities. Empathy is an obstacle. And the is exactly what is going on, you can't change the world by going after all the problems, you must put your time and effort into solving the most critical. And being "nice" isn't one of them.
