Stopping Piracy in Destiny

Donkeys. Pirates. Laser light shows. Now that I have your attention: Dear Bungie, It's pretty obvious that there's a lot of hype for Destiny, but sadly that means that some people won't be buying it, they'll pirate it. Yes, even the console version of games can be pirated, using the crafty magic of these digital Bluebeards. To prevent this, I have some ideas that I believe Bungie should seriously consider to punish pirates, going in the vein of Game Dev Tycoon. My ideas*: -Legitimate copies should get access to the Tigerman. Bungie, you're making a mistake here, trust me. I know things. -Pirated copies should be able to select the Tigerman, and only the tigerman, but upon exiting the character creation screen, their head turns into a Soffish. Upon headshot deaths, the Soffish explodes into smaller Soffishes that flop into the nearest body of water for further storage. -Pirated copies should be harassed, consistently, by an intergalactic band of brigands that will be known as the Jacked Sparrows. Throughout the game, these pirates would -- randomly -- show up with near unkillable stats, targeting only the player and his squadmates/friends. Personally, I think that this is something that would greatly benefit the gaming community and Bungie itself. Sincerely, A concerned fan *Don't take any of these seriously, for your own health.

  • -Pirates can only select the Pirate class. -Pirate characters wear an eye-patch to fit their unlawful nature. Because of this, while using iron sights or scopes, pirates have zero depth perception and cannot focus their remaining eye properly. -Pirates also have poor credit. Items in shops cost triple. -Pirates weapons are in notoriously bad condition and will randomly jam. -Pirates can only enter instances with other pirates. -All pirate vehicle licenses have been revoked. Bicycles and moving on foot are allowed. -Pirates are not allowed weapons above .22 calliber or 10Kw range. -Pirates are not allowed to wear hats or headgear. Faces must be visible. -Pirates do not clean themselves regularly. Their stench attracts extra attention from Fallen and other enemies. -Pirates have a random chance to pass out from alcohol consumption. The chance of this occurring is quadrupled while in combat. -Pirates are always in combat. -Pirates automatically drop their weapon and salute when near friendly NPCs or non-pirate characters. The salute is held until the salute is returned by the higher-ranking person. -The NPC "Andy the 'armless" cannot return salutes. Pirate characters are advised to avoid him. -Pirate characters ambient music is replaced by "999,999 beers on the wall" sung by Joseph Staten. Joe frequently restarts due to his inability to count backwards. -Pirate menu text consists of pictograms and letters cut out from french newspapers. -Pirates are restricted from 1st-party peripherals and controllers. MadCatz controllers are still permitted. -Pirate controllers constantly leak a small amount of bacon grease to keep the hands lubricated and smooth. -Scopes on Pirate weapons are installed backwards. Triggers are also occasionally installed backwards. -Pirates cannot use cloaks. Ascots are permitted.

    • If you pirate a game you can't connect to the online servers and Destiny is an Always Online game so Destiny can't be pirated. Or so I hear.

    • I'm not meaning to flame or start a war but if piracy is a concern the Xbox one previous needed 24 hour check in would have removed piracy completely. That was the purpose of it but I'm not in charge so who cares.

          • It's an always online game so piracy is pretty pointless, even then, Activision is rich, a few blackbeards running around won't kill them.
