Can Someone Report Too Much?

Does it matter who reports someone or if they report often to almost never? Does anything effect the validity of the reporting action? I would assume not but I would like to know for sure.

  • Report away. You can't get banned from reporting too much or too little. The system has controls to prevent abuse, but these controls do not affect users. You should report for anything you think needs reporting, you don't have to consider how it will look. The moderators can't even tell who reported something, for example.

      • Report away. If your report(s) are matched by a sufficient number of other member reports, then that post/content/user makes an entry in our docket. The charge is levelled (the post/content, the reporting reason, etc.) and a ninja then judges the case with a "guilty/innocent" verdict. If guilty, the content is removed and the user banned. If innocent, the defendant walks free. As to whether there is an evaluation of how many of a members reports result in a conviction or are thrown out of court? I don't know. The old site had a "trust system" that was based on multiple metrics. The web-team are clever enough to factor in some sort of "trustee rating" that values one member's reports over another. Whether or not there's something like that in play? I have no earthly idea. I can imagine it, I could roughly guess how it would work, but I wouldn't know and couldn't tell (since I have no insight into how the system functions, except from my limited perspective) if it exists. Either way, I would recommend that you report when you think something is wrong. As long as you're operating in good faith, if there is such a system, you can only benefit from it. Those who would attempt shenanigans or exploits? If there is such a system, it would also note and deal with their efforts.
