Examples of College Level Work

Stuff Like the length and content of an average report. What is homework like? Tests? Nothing major specific just general requirements.

  • my course is entirely coursework based keep in mind. between 5 and 7 essays (1k - 3k words each) each semester due in at various points no real homework except a chapter or two of reading before each lecture / seminar maybe a written test or two each year probably a presentation or two throughout the course

It depends on the type of class. History, English and Humanistic Studies papers tend to be approximately eight pages long, in my experience. The only science papers I have had to write were lab reports and length didn't matter in those. As long as you described the experiment and the results accurately, you got full points. Aside from text book readings, homework often depends on the teachers. Aside from chemistry lab reports and readings, I haven't had homework in two years. Yet my roommate stays up late each night translating things for his German classes. Tests also vary on class and teachers. Some are all multiple choice, others are all short answer/essay questions. Your experience in college can vary greatly from anyone else attending the same school.

  • To answer your question, it's really hard to say. You have different majors and varying semesters. Frankly, I know people who have it a lot easier than others in college.

    • I only had like two major papers for my real college work. More midterms and finals.

Homework? Tests? Not really. Final year Bachelor's Law school student here. No tests, no assignments other than for the odd practicum. Nothing but 1 exam for each class that makes up 100% of your grade and the occasional paper that has to be written (currently working on an unfinished one on nemo tenetur and cryptography law, 46 pages as of now). But it obviously depends on what you're studying and where. Some countries and universities have way higher standards than others.

        • Here's my Circuits final review as an example. It's hard to provide examples because of the difference in majors and years. Freshman year will feel like high school but senior year will be much different.

        • It depends on the class and professor. The average paper varies from five to fifteen pages. Projects are completely variable. Some can be simple tasks, others that last a full semester and require a presentation and project. Generally speaking, the more a class is math based, the less writing you will have to do.

        • Some classes have essays due for every single class, while have 2 or 3 tests as the only assignments. There's no example that's representative of "college work."

        • You're acting like college is all one level of difficulty. There are freshman classes and there are senior level classes. The standards for the latter are much higher than for the former.

        • At least at my university, once you get past Calculus they don't have the funds for paying for graders, so most professors won't collect homework (though you're a damned fool if you don't do any of it, it just means you can do what you need to do to study rather than being assigned busy work for the sake of busy work). Computer Science isn't too bad either, there's a few hardcore classes that require many hours of your time, but in general it's just a nice few hour assignment every other week, and as long as you plan ahead you won't have as much difficulty.

        • Homework in college isn't really a standard. It depends on how your teacher teaches. Also, your major determines if you have a lot of homework. Reports can be as short as a few paragraphs or as long as 10 pages. It all depends on your teacher. Either way, in college, a 10 page paper is no biggie.

        • There's a general word limit of about 1000 words for the economics school at my college at first-year, and the other subjects, with the exception of Accelerated Math are just piss-easy or annoying rote-learning (I'm looking at you, Chem). I'm working on a computing project right now.

        • You barely get homework assignments. Well maybe for the gen ed classes you do. I don't know it depends on what you're going to study. My math classes had a lot of homework worksheets, but things like history or english classes you just get a shit ton of reading and a few essays.
