Question: Why does everyone call america a superpower? They're not eons above the rest of western society in any respect, be it military, economic or even social.

China will never become the next superpower because we overspend on defense. We have 6 times the military spending of China. The country may be going down the toilet, but by god at least we can world police with all the newest death gadgets.

Well sucks for you. China will never become the next global super power due to the fact they can barely control their own country. You think China would be a better super power than the US? Look at the map above. That's how China views things. Everything belongs to them and their neighbors get nothing. You know the senkaku islands? The islands that Japan legally owns and are recognized as theirs by pretty much every nation in the U.N.? China still insists that those islands belong to them and actually have their military patrolling the waters around them and taking resources from them knowing that Japan can't actually do anything back without starting a war. The Chinese citizens along the coast (where all the big cities are and they're the only region that actually supports the Chinese government) have actively called for their government to preform genocide on the Japanese over this issue (seriously, there were even signs in grocery markets giving discounts to people who screamed out "death to all Japanese" at one point). You might not like the US, but currently you're lucky that it's the worlds sole remaining super power compared to the other ones you could have had.
