Since Google makes tons of money off of ads, it "makes sense" that they wouldn't want to encourage users of their products/services to have tools to block those income-producing ads.
So far, this is limited to Android devices, but I could see Google attempting to render Chrome less capable of blocking ads. IMO, it's probably just a matter of time.
So much for "don't be evil", eh?

The majority of them are of no relevance to me either and that's why I usually avoid commercial TV and most streaming videos.
