Split Ticket Voting

Voting for one party on the Presidential and the other party on the Congressional, or voting for a party in the midterms specifically because the other party is holding the Presidency. Do / would you? Why?

  • I highly doubt if I'll ever vote liberal. Democrat, maybe. Liberal, no.

  • I don't like to, but I have and probably will continue to if the current climate persists. I'll give you an example. I live in Connecticut. Last year we had a senatorial election between Chris Murphy and Linda McMahon. I think Chris Murphy is a tool. He's incompetent and I haven't seen any evidence of any kind of intelligence. McMahon, while running a somewhat hypocritical campaign, seemed like a genuinely good person and someone who cared about her would-be constituents. I voted for Murphy. Why? Because he might be a tool, but he is a tool of the Democrats. And right now I would take a person incapable of individual thought, but votes against obstructionism, over someone who will work with these Republicans.

    • I have a personal and not-widely-shared dislike for incumbents. Since both parties suck, unless the incumbent has done something properly during their current term, I vote for the other guy and try to "fire them" for not doing their job. Personally, I believe if more people voted that way, all politicians (regardless of party) would be more motivated to work once elected than to plan on their re-election campaign.

      • Would I, yes. Have I, I can't really recall. Why? Because one-party rule is bad. Or, as Recon so eloquently put, both parties suck, and thus I feel it's better that they each check the other's suckiness, rather than one party have full reign to implement their flavor of suck on the nation.

      • I'd vote for whoever I believe is most qualified and whoever best matches my views. Regardless of their respective party. Though I seem to usually want to vote for democrats in my state.

      • Technically, my ticket when I voted was split because there were a few people running locally that were unopposed so I decided to write-in Aaron Rodgers. Other than that, I voted for Paul Ryan twice in the same day so I actually did abide by party lines.

      • I care more about character than I do about party lines.

If the Presidential candidate is qualified, I will vote for him. If the Congressman is qualified, I will vote for him. I tend to disregard party lines. Of course, I don't vote yet...
