Mechanics Help
First thread made here on the new layout, everything is still rather confusing to me, had to make an alt.
Anyways, I am stuck on these two questions right here, I have been working over the pulley and Impulses for a few hours but these two are the main ones that I can't get past this is part of the Edexcel M1 Mechanics course, help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so for the masses, I'm going to use F=ma, and since we have a value for acceleration which is 1/7G, I think we can say F=3(1/7*9.81) for tension. Since m<3, we can say that the acceleration for the mass of 3kg is going down, thus positive. It's been two years since I've done this, so take that with a grain of NaCl.
