AT&T really knows how to rustle a man's jimmies

Recently I decided to buy Batman Arkham City over Steam. Unbeknownst to me it is a 15 GB download. Now this may not seem like a lot to most people (with normal internet), but it took me an entire 2 1/2 days to download it because I HAVE HORRIBLE INTERNET. My maximum download speed is around 150 kb p/s, but prefers to stay at 90-100 kb p/s most of the time. Yet here is the really frustrating part: I'm paying for 2 mb p/s! So if you (the Offtopic Forum) would be so kind as to inform me of a superior internet provider, I would greatly appreciate it. BTW I am currently using AT&T. I've also considered Google Fiber, but that hasn't been released yet.

yeah at&t are mega douches I am not sure how they can sell download speeds that slow. BTW, the 2 Mb/s is usually shared in a local area. So my ISP sells 50Mb/s and that is shared between a few blocks around me, so if some guy is torrenting 70TB of porn I am going to have a bad time.

      • Do you have Time Warner cable in your area? They're a pretty good ISP.

        • I feel you bro, I have Comcast and they are awful. We were getting 5 mb/ps when we should've been getting 15 mb/ps. That is, when it was working. It constantly dropped, lagged, etc. Made it impossible to enjoy online gaming. I had to call them literally over 24 times. Most of it was just tech support (dem waiting times!), but the last three they had to come to my house. First time around, changed our modem. Didn't do anything. Second time, checked wires outside, found absolutely nothing wrong. The last time they finally sent someone who was competent. He found that wires throughout the house were loose, and fixed them promptly. Presto! Internet = Fixed. I was wondering why the last couple guys couldn't find anything... Anyway, Comcast = Terrible Customer Service. Never Again.

          • I have at&t dsl too. A while ago we were having absolutely terrible ping problems. I tried contacting them but they refused to fix the problem because our download speed was "normal" and they just couldn't understand when I kept trying to explain to them what ping is and why it was bad. They just kept reverting back to, "well your download speed blah blah blah..."

          • What flavor of AT&T are you on? Their DSL offering? You may want to look into their U-Verse system (if it is available in your area) which is FTTN (Fiber To The Node) or in many cases FTTH (Fiber To The House). I'm on U-Verse and it is a rock-solid system, even though I am at the copper distance limit with my local FTTN installation.
