How come the Kryptonians were so easily wiped out?

For those of you who saw the Death Battle, you know how powerful Superman can be. If not, link is above for you to find out. (skip to 8:46 for his stats) But I've found a continuity error. If Kryptonians really are that powerful, then how come a measly planet implosion/explosion killed off most of their race? I understand that they lived under a Red Sun, but they were technologically advanced. Couldn't they have evacuated their population to a yellow star?

  • Because most of them didn't think the planet was going to explode. The ones that did, made plans to escape (or their offspring, evident of Kal, Kara, etc.) A better question would be this: what makes Kal so special? If he (Earth-1 Superman) can sneeze and move the galaxy, has nanosecond reaction time, etc., theoretically, couldn't Kara, or Zod, or Christopher (Zod's son) technically achieve that status as well? It's a broken concept, really.

  • The radiation given off from our sun is what gives Superman his powers. Without it, Superman would have no powers. Also, the Kryptonian leaders were too stuck-up to realize that they caused their planet's explosion.

They're just like regular humans on their planet. Our sun is what makes them powerful. Oh, you know this. Anyway, technology can't save you from an exploding star.

Because their star exploded. That kind of puts and end to most things. Also, Superman is only as strong as he is because he absorbs energy from our sun, which is yellow. Krypton's sun was red, so Krypton's inhabitants never absorbed as much power as Superman did.

    • Because a god wanted all but Kal to die. Despair of the Endless (the first one) had the star go supernova and destroy the entire planet except for a single survivor who would spend the rest of his life angsting because he was the one survivor. Of course, the whole angsting part didn't go as planned, and neither did the lone survivor part.

      • They allowed gay and inter racial marriage. This polluted the Kryptonian gene pool and ended them as a species. Kal-El's parents were the last of the pure races on the planet. Everyone else died as part of God's judgement and wrath for their deviant lifestyle. (Did'ya fall for it?)

        • I'm not a very big Superman fan, but what I do know is this: Krypton's Sun was a late stage Red Giant, apparently destined for super nova. I guess the rulers of Krypton knew they would never be able to outrun the nova and it's radiation, and instead settled for the hand they were given. But why then did Superman survive with what was apparently readily available technology. Superman doesn't make any sense.

        • Also do you not realise just how much money it would cost to move an entire population to another planet. And even if they had the money, by the time the planets end came to be, even if the planet accepted Jor's evidence, you think there would be a sufficient time to move an entire planet? Obviously not, I mean if the planet is so close to it's death that the evidence for it is "compelling" as you say, then there simply wouldn't be.

          • Because then there wouldn't be much of a backstory, eh?

Eh, just a weak plot point. Nothing really to it. They needed Superman alone for the story so they blew everyone else up. That part of the story was never meant to be looked into in such detail from the start. In the end, it's just there, an open book. You can spend hours looking into it or you can just sit back, have some Arizona® Green Tea while you watch some Superman movies/shows, and enjoy the Action Packed Adventures of Superman.

              • According to the comic series "Red Son" (Not canon but explains it) they were in a state that they were just waiting for death, so Jor-El sent Kal back in time to change the course of history so they wouldn't be like that.

I'm not sure about current canon, but I thought that traditionally speaking the planets disctruction was due to negligence. Jor-El saw it coming and saved his son.
