This isn't a social media website.

Please note that this is solely my opinion: This site has completely changed, and not for the better. Replacing dedicated forums with hash tags is a horrible idea. Making groups public is a bad idea. Getting rid of titles is a terrible idea as well, and the list goes on from there. If I wanted to go on a Social Media website, I have my phone for that. Bungie.net is not Facebook or Twitter, it's a gaming website for gamers.

  • That's right it's just a forum/app/communication site where people share thoughts and opinions totally not anything to do with "socializing"

  • But it IS a social website. This site now functions a lot more like your real life social interactions. Instead of being forced to read/hear whoever is shouting the loudest and the most, you get to choose who you hang out with, who you listen to, and what topics you want to talk about. And if you want to expand your horizons, you're always free to drink from the firehose of the main forum feed. Personally, I think it's a great system thus far -- clearly not without its kinks, but I'm enjoying it.

    • You know it's really funny how if you have something that looks like [Gaming] it's ok, or if it looks like a button, that's cool too. People are OK with tags, they've been around for ages and represent something we work with on multiple levels of thought: categories. But put a '#' in front of it and people start freaking out and calling it twitter or whatever. Take a deep breath, calm down, they're just tags. Yes, Bungie decided to represent them with a '#' in front, because that's the current trend. But they could just as easily [looked like this] or - this - or even THIS You're confusing its representation on the site with its true nature: it's just a way to attach categories to something. We do it everyday; we call this a 'computer' or that a 'car.' Sure, we don't think '#computer' or '[car]', but those symbols are just a way of telling us 'hey! this thing is important. it does something. check it out!' Compromise? We can ditch the # but keep the tagging system; its far to powerful to let slip away :)

        • I disagree. Bungie has always been a social media site. People migrate here due to a fascination with the Bungie mythos and products and that makes them like-minded on some level. Being that humanity is a social species, we seek out similar individuals to befriend and enjoy the company of. People have been using Bungie.net for years to create LAN events, connect on Xbox Live and other gaming networks, and discuss their favorite things. Moreover, private groups have been encouraging the development of communities, social communities, for years as well. This is just an additional tool for everyone. It makes finding people easier, discussing your favorite things easier, and genuinely will make Bungie.net a far more social experience especially with a new game on the horizon. Furthermore, it is only in BETA and thereby is subject to change and evolve over time. I wouldn't despair.
