I understand and appreciate Bungie’s decision to restrict account unlinking in order to prevent fraud, boosting, and account trading. Protecting the integrity of the ecosystem is clearly important.
However, making account linking permanently irreversible also removes any tolerance for human error, which affects legitimate players who may:
accidentally link the wrong platform account,
use an old or shared account,
or simply make a mistake they only realize later.
A permanent restriction does not allow for reconsideration or correction in good faith, and ends up penalizing honest users for actions taken by a minority of bad actors.
Many other platforms address this same problem by implementing long cooldown periods rather than permanent locks (e.g. 30, 60, or 90 days between unlinking and relinking).
This approach:
strongly discourages fraud and abuse,
maintains security and platform integrity,
while still allowing users to recover from genuine mistakes.
I believe a long, enforced cooldown would strike a better balance between fraud prevention and user protection, without reopening the door to abuse.
