Channel 4 or 5 before school CITV or CBBC after school Yes, terrestrial broadcast TV in the UK only had 5 channels, two of them literally being called ‘channel 4’ and ‘channel 5’. And depending where you were in the country, you weren’t guaranteed watchable reception on anything other than BBC 1 & 2. Most CN, Nickelodeon, Disney etc shows were sold variously to the three major commercial stations in the UK, (CBBC - literally the ‘Children’s BBC’ - mostly making their own shows) so you constantly had to channel hop between ITV, 4 and 5 to follow your favourites, and if you didn’t pay enough attention to the TV Guide then a show would move stations and if it ended up being on at a time you were watching something else then you’d think it disappeared completely. They were also limited to between about 6 and 8:30 am, and 3 and 6pm weekdays, because those were designated the ‘children’s hours’ on the main network channels. So you couldn’t watch late night shows like Robot Chicken unless you paid for satellite TV to get the American channels or you waited a few years for YouTube to be invented or for the DVDs to come out. And then some shows only existed on Saturday mornings, that’s when the most current episodes of things like Powerpuff Girls and Power Rangers would be shown, with repeats and less popular shows shown in the week.

    • I didn’t watch tv at all as a small kid. Forced to be outside for 12 hours a day. As a teenager I watched mainly MTV. Now I just watch murder mysteries, judge Judy and dr Phil.

All of the above. When I was really little, I would watch a lot of PBS Kids—namely Arthur. When I was a bit older, it was Nickelodeon, amd/or Nicktoons Network. Avatar, My Life as as Teenage Robot, Danny Phantom, Fairly Odd Parents, and classic Spongebob (back when it was good). In my later teens I’d watch a lot of Disney Channel, mainly for Good Luck Charlie. Then as an adult I’d pop on Cartoon Network every now & then for Amazing World of Gumball, and of course, Steven Universe. Edit: Didn't see the "the most", somehow. I would say overall, probably Nickelodeon, but really that doesn't feel like a good answer to me, because--as listed above, I watched different channels at different parts of my life. Also, pretty sure 4Kids had a decent view time as well. I believe that's where they originally aired Pokemon, and I know I was a huge fan of the Pokemon show for the first three generations. Yu-Gi-Oh, too.

            • Do you mean as a kid? Okay, black and white tv. There were only 7 channels on VHF and a few more on VHF. You watched one list of shows during the season and the stuff you missed during summer reruns. TV Guide was on every coffee table; right next to dad's ash tray. The kid's job was to change the channel or the volume and, if they were the smart one, adjust the antenna. Streaming was going down the creek on an inner tube.

              • 'Hey, Dude' was my show! Then there was also Inspector Gadget, Danger Mouse, You Can't Do That On Television, and Double Dare. Good stuff. Interesting fact (at least I think so); Marc Summers, the host and producer of Double Dare, had (has?) a SERIOUS case of OCD. I saw a biography about him once, and it showed how he would literally walk around his house for inordinate periods of time adjusting every little thing, usually multiple times. One thing in particular that stuck in my memory was how he'd take the end of throw rugs and keep flipping them up and down until the fringy bits laid out perfectly straight. While he was being filmed doing so, the song 'Lunatic Fringe' by Red Rider was playing. Okay, that was actually a lame story; true though.
