If I play campaign on normal, can I go back and beat each mission on lego to get exotic armor?
Beyond that, do I need to farm the lost sector du jour to unlock new exotics?

Both options work. Either go back to the campaign and run all missions on legendary, or do the lost sector when the specific slot is dropping. If you do not like the campaign roll, you can do the lost sector and get a different one than the static one from campaign.
