Metalworking is an art prized by society for both the skill and the strain involved into creating something truly functional. Whether that be a horseshoe or a glistening blade, all metal is formed to serve a purpose. But what if our primitive society, our world of nobles, serfs, wars, and plagues, could find a way to heighten the art of metalwork? To create [I]machines[/I]. Ones like no others seen before. This was the mission statement of Count Edwin von Otto III, an inventor of the highest order. Edwin, some many years ago, set off on a quest to create the first metal machine. Not powered by fire, or man, or prayers to the gods. Otto painstakingly crafted a machine that powered itself, by use of gears, weights, and rare dwarven gems. What he designed was nothing fancy, but a simple cupboard with doors that opened and closed when a person approached. But Edwin's seemingly simple invention would spawn a whole technological revolution, utilizing his simple idea of gears, weights, and gems. The feudal world changed forever.
