Hello! Sorry for the delay of a new PfD, I was originally making a post about the purpose and origins of the Vault of Glass, but when I came back, everything was deleted. So... that happened.
However! Today, while I prep at another “run” at VoG, I’ll go over the basics of what a Hunter is, and the Dare, which a lot of people like to talk about on these forums.
So, without further ado...
Welcome to LFD! This series is meant to be an easily digestible, simplified, short, and somewhat entertaining lore ‘crash course’ for those who want to learn more without wading through grimoire.
So, Hunters are canonically the fast, assassin-like Guardians. They like to work in the wild, and are usually scouts for any tactical operation.
Un-canonically, they are the farthest things from assassins. But that’s besides the point.
There isn’t actually a lot to say about how the class specifically came to be after the “Risen” era (when there were no classes, just people who could live forever), just that the Vanguard were the people to organize the whole class system.
However, unlike the other two classes, Hunters do not like just sitting around, managing paperwork. They like to be roaming Old Russia or the EDZ!
So, they came up with the Dare. The Dare was basically a sort of promise between two Hunters. One would assume the role of the Hunter Vanguard, and the other would wait until either the other died, or in Cayde’s case, whoever killed him.
However, it’s not always restricted to death. Some will hold a sort of competition, like racing around this dangerous chasm, or fighting a massive boss and killing it. Whoever lost became the Vanguard. So, make sure the other one doesn’t die right?
Right?

Sorry if this one is so short (I may have been procrastinating, so I got loaded with work), but the Vault of Glass will be much longer, and much more interesting.
